A graduate of Jamestown Community College in Jamestown, NY, Heather enjoyed many hours under what she describes as “the invaluable instruction of William Disbro and Shauna Frishcorn.” She credits her education in the fine arts and photography to her understanding of how to create solid work that will evoke emotion and a connection within the viewer.
She has owned a small successful portrait and wedding photography business for nearly a decade and finds this line of work to be a challenge and a blessing all at once. “Because I am energized and inspired by individuals, in turn I often form friendships with my clients. For this I am very grateful.”
Of her work in this exhibit, Heather said:
“The Dream series is not meant to be some big mysterious conceptual body of work. It is simply my interpretation of a fine art portrait. I've carefully selected elements, composition and a subject that work together to create an image that takes on its own expression. I listen intently to what I see and compose my image based on the organic reality.
“I will shoot many frames but when I've hit the mark, I know before I ever see the back of the camera or a negative. It's a rush that I crave because it's so rare. This work is meant to translate to the viewer in the same organic fashion melding into their personal reality. A gift if you will.
“I have a little book titled ‘Never Photograph People Eating and 50 other Ridiculous Photography Rules.’ In regards to writing something about my work, I found a quote by Lewis Hine that made me chuckle. ‘If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera.’”
